Called an extraordinary scientist and mentor by her peers, Cynthia Lemere researches how the immune system can be used therapeutically to treat Alzheimer’s disease. Early in her career, Dr. Lemere became interested in the accumulation of amyloid plaques when she studied the brains of people with Down syndrome, which was foundational to her work in Alzheimer’s disease. She was a pioneer of the idea that Alzheimer’s can be treated with anti-amyloid therapy, both with active and passive immunization.
