Anja Schneider’s lab explores the pathological mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases; specifically, the role of extracellular vesicles. These are small, membrane-enclosed structures carrying a variety of cargos that are secreted by cells as a means of cell-to-cell communication under healthy but also disease conditions. Dr. Schneider is researching how extracellular vesicles may be involved in the spreading of disease pathology in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Her research interests also include the development of fluid biomarkers for these conditions.
