Maiken Nedergaard is credited with coining the term “glymphatic system” in 2012 with the seminal discovery of a brain network that clears metabolites and waste products through cerebrospinal fluid while we sleep. In the decade since, Dr. Nedergaard’s findings have advanced the field of scientific study of the glymphatic system and its relevance in age-related neurodegenerative conditions, such as Alzheimer’s disease.
